I am the assistant manager of a very busy accountancy practice, and a new member of Contemporary Expressions, a group that I was thrilled to be asked to join. I have won several honours for my quilts - "Parasols" was placed Second in the Small Wallhangings category of the National Quilt Championships in 2008, and won the Viewers' Choice trophy at The Bramble Patch Christmas exhibition in the same year. "A Garden on Mars" was placed Second in the Wallhangings category at Quilts in the Garden in 2010, and was given the great honour of a place at the Quilters' Guild Museum at York for the Region 10 exhibition in 2010/11. I am a member of the Quilters' Guild, and also the Contemporary Quilt Group.
I have enjoyed a wide range of textile work, including embroidery and felt making, since childhood. Quilting enables me to turn scraps of fabric into something both decorative and useful, combining a wide range of skills with a philosophy of making use of what you have. Whilst I primarily enjoy the traditional techniques of piecing and applique by hand, I am always open to new ideas in fabric decoration and manipulation. This year I am aiming to expand my knowledge of printing techniques, and am attending a week-long course at Missenden Abbey which will combine various weights of felt and other fabrics with a wide variety of printing methods.
